SAPAAC Panel Event

Team Cantonese joins forces with the Stanford Asian Pacific American Alumni Club ( to host a panel discussion "The Story of Cantonese at Stanford>"

Despite an ongoing campaign to “Save Cantonese” at Stanford from budget cuts, the future of the program remains uncertain. To understand the future for the Cantonese language, this panel will first look to its long cultural and political history, and how it traces its roots in Guangdong to the present-day diaspora globally.

Join Dr. Sik Lee Dennig (PhD '92), alum Dr. Jamie Tam (BS '10), and alum Dr. Gina Tam (PhD '16) as they discuss the history and legacy of Cantonese at Stanford. They will describe the significance of Cantonese from a historical perspective, the history of the program itself, and student-led efforts to both create its existence in 1997 and protect it for future generations.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Jamie Tam (BS '10)
